KATSUMI KOMAGATA is the author of several books for children as well as the creator of workshops that encourage creativity and communication between children and their parents. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1953. After working at the Nippon Design Center, moved to the United States in 1977. He worked on CI design and graphic design at CBS headquarters in New York, Schecter Group, etc. Returned to Japan in 1983.
ONE STROKE was established in 1986. Since then, he has published many picture books. With the launch of the Museum of Modern Art in New York at the MoMA Museum Shop in 1990, his activities spread to the world, and in 1994 he began solo exhibitions and workshops in France, starting in Lyon, France, and still travels around the world.
In 2012, he started producing a sign-language picture book but developed acute lymphocytic leukemia, and was discharged the next year after receiving a bone marrow transplant. The following year, Katsumi Komagata's documentary program closely linked to the sign language picture book production process was broadcast at WOWOW Prime, and the program was nominated for an International Emmy Award.
After returning to school, he began teaching at Rikkyo University and Joshibi University of Art and Design in KOMAGATA METHOD for professions around the world. In 2016, she won the RAGAZZI SPECIAL MENTION AWARD at the Bologna International Children's Book Exhibition, and continues to the present.
