Tharlo is a film script, short story, and critical essay, all in one.

In 2012, Pema Tseden published his short story about a shepherd taken from the mountains into a world alien to him. In 2015, he adapted it into the critically acclaimed film Tharlo (Golden Horse Award, New Asian Cinema Award).

This book combines Tseden's talents and opens up contemporary Tibetan culture, with its core issues of identity, compassion, modernity, and the tensions from China.

THARLO Written by Pema Tseden; Translated by Jessica Yeung
